Tet Celebration

Every year as the New Year approaches there is an inclination to view event as a new beginning. A Time to reflect on the year that passed, our accomplishments and our struggles, look toward the future and set goals for the New Year.
In Vietnam the celebration of Tet is that such event. Tet is the occasion for Vietnamese to express their respect and remembrance for their ancestors as well as welcome the New Year. Family’s get together to have big meals, decorate Tet trees and eat Tet food.

In an effort to get rid of the bad luck of the old year, people may spend a few days cleaning their homes, polishing every utensil, or even repaint and decorate the house with kumquat tree or branches of peach blossom. The ancestral altar is especially taken care of, with careful decoration of five kinds of fruits and votive papers, along with many religious rituals. People, especially children, buy new clothes and shoes to wear on the first days of New Year. People also try to pay all their pending debts and resolve all the arguments among colleagues, friends or members of family.
Like other Asian countries, Vietnamese believe that the color of red and yellow will bring good fortune, which may explain why these colors can be seen everywhere in Lunar New Year. People consider what they do on the dawn of Tet will determine their fate for the whole year, hence people always smile and behave as nice as they can in the hope for a better year.

In 2017 Tet is on January 28th – the celebration will last from January 27th through February 1st.

Anyone that had been to BONMi has probably noticed the “BONMi Bucket List” a large chalk wall where we invite our guests to share “what’s on their bucket list”. Some say that the act of putting your goals in writing makes you more likely to make them happen.

For us, the creation of BONMi was on our Bucket List. The strong desire to work for ourselves and create a restaurant with people whom we love and respect. To spend our days with individuals who share an unwavering passion to foster a work environment where our team can learn & grow. To create tastes and flavors that are craveable and unique. To have a platform where we can support causes that are important to us. Yep – That was all on the list!

While we can reflect and be proud of what we have accomplished thus far – it does not take away our drive to continue to move forward and want to drive for more. We have set goals for the year to come as well. To open new locations; to grow our professional partnerships with amazing companies like Whole Foods Market; to meet new people and help to transform them from guests to raving fans; to support causes close to our heart; and to continue to create an environment where our team has fun every day.

We invite you to share… what are your hopes and dreams for the New Year? What is your lifelong goal? What do you think about when no one is looking? Put it out there; share with us…. What’s on your Bucket list?
